A new business called Troy Transit will help the Troy community get around safely.

Brittany Threats is a freshman at Troy University. If there is one thing she'd change about campus, it is parking.

“The other day, I was like five minutes late [to class] because I had to park all the way across campus. It was crazy,” said Threats, a freshman at Troy University.

Now, she may be able to hitch a ride with Troy Transit—a new business coming to Troy. Michael Root and fellow alumni thought of the idea when they realized local transportation was missing in the area.

“There’s about four main bars that most of the students go to and they're downtown. They’re kind of spread out on Highway 231,” explained Root, President of Troy Transit.

The official grand opening is August 31st, but business is already booming.

“I actually got a phone call the other night from a young lady who had a late night class and she needed a ride so, hey, we gave her a ride,” said Root.

The transportation costs five dollars per person, but it will keep students safe.

“It will help benefit the guys that go out to the bars and make it where they don't have to drive and get a DUI,” suggested Christy Daniels, a freshman at Troy University.

Root said, “Of course that's the biggest thing, is getting those unsafe drivers off the road. But, it’s a safety thing as well. You know, you have a night class or you're stranded somewhere, you can give us a call. We'll get you anywhere you're at."

Threats already used Troy Transit and saw the benefits. She said it will drive the university into a safer direction.

“It’s a good thing to have because we are kind of a small school and we're expanding so we need something to get us across, because not everybody has a car,” she said.

Troy Transit currently has two cars—a twelve passenger and an eight passenger. However, they are hoping to expand. Troy Transit will operate Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m.
