TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa County authorities are
investigating the death of a 19-month-old girl who apparently died
in sweltering heat after being trapped in a car.

Capt. Loyd Baker, commander of the Tuscaloosa County Homicide
Unit, said Monday the death of the unidentified girl appears to be
heat-related, but an investigation is being conducted to determine
the cause.

He said the girl's young siblings had been getting things out of the car when the 19-month-old apparently was left inside without family members realizing it.

Baker said the father searched the house at the Echola community
near Gordo and eventually found the girl on the floor of the car by
the front passenger seat.

He says the doors were not locked, but were closed along with the windows.
