Alabama Professor Denied Appeal of Murder conviction

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Supreme Court has declined
to hear a former University of Alabama in Huntsville professor's
appeal of his murder conviction.

Andrew Pakhomov was sentenced to 45 years in prison in 2009 for
strangling his wife, Yelena Zakin, and dumping her body in the
Tennessee River three year earlier. Prosecutors said the
49-year-old physics professor killed his wife after she wrecked his
office when she found him with another woman.

A fisherman found the partially submerged body a few days later.
Pakhomov remarried eight months after his wife's body was found.

Pakhomov can appeal his case to federal courts or seek to argue
he had ineffective legal counsel.
