SLOCOMB, Ala. (AP) - The Democratic candidate for an Alabama
House seat in the Wiregrass region of southeast Alabama has dropped
out of the race, but Democrats say they are not conceding the seat
in the Republican-leaning region.

Former Slocomb Mayor Vickie Moore said she is dropping out of
the race.
That leaves the Republican nominee, Sansom High School
football coach Donnie Chesteen, as the only candidate in the race.

But Alabama Democratic Party executive director Jim Spearman
said Thursday he expects his party to nominate a candidate to run
for the House District 87 seat when the executive committee meets
in August.

The seat was previously held by Republican Rep. Warren Beck of
Geneva. Beck died in February.
