1 Killed after Ono Island Boating Accident

ONO ISLAND, Ala. (AP) - A man is dead after authorities say he fell from his ski boat near Ono Island and was then struck by its propeller when the vessel was accidentally backed over him.

Alabama Marine Police Officer Jon Archer says Brent Poor died after being struck at 12:10 p.m. Archer did not have a hometown listed for Poor.

Baldwin County Assistant Coroner Rod Steade says Poor was with his wife and two children on Old River when an attachment for a towrope tangled in the propeller of his 24-foot Sea Ray boat.

Authorities say the 41-year-old was struck after he leaned over to free the line, fell into the water, and someone on the boat tried to put the boat in neutral but instead pushed the gear into reverse.
