AL Woman Sentenced in Federal Fraud Case

GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - Federal officials say a Rainbow City woman was sentenced to three years in federal prison for fraud after she stole almost $700,000 from her employer.

U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick Maley said Tuesday in a news release that 56-year-old Roxanne Saunders Gilliland was sentenced on charges of bank fraud
and mortgage application fraud.

Gilliland pleaded guilty to the charges in February. U.S. District Judge C. Lynwood Smith Jr. ordered her to pay $693,748 in restitution and forfeit $577,796 to the government.

Gilliland was employed by Dawson Construction Co. in Gadsden between March 2005 and October 2008. Prosecutors say she fraudulently withdrew more than $690,000 from personal and business
accounts connected to the company.
