Incoming LSU Freshman Dies in Car Crash

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - An Alabama teenager in Baton Rouge to attend freshman orientation at LSU has died in a car crash.

Police say 18-year-old Elizabeth Thompson, of Fairhope, Ala., died Monday from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident.

Sgt. Don Kelly says Thompson was driving a car that pulled into traffic from a private driveway and was hit by a pickup driven by 22-year-old Kevin J. Kearney of Baton Rouge.

Kelly says 51-year-old Mary Thompson, the victim's mother and a passenger in the car, is listed in stable condition at a Baton Rouge hospital.

Police say Kearney was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
