Birmingham reconsiders $25,000 for biker event

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Some on the Birmingham city council want
to cancel a $25,000 payment of city funds to a new motorcycle event
now that it's headed to another city.

Promoters of Vulcan Bike Week say they will keep the money from the city although the event was moved from the Birmingham Race Course to the Alabama International Dray Way in Steele.

Councilwoman Valerie Abbott, who cast the lone vote against the allocation, says she hopes the check has not been cashed and that
it is appropriate for the city's money to be returned.

Organizers say the investment is a good one for the city and that Birmingham should still reap nearly $15 million in economic impact because most of the estimated 30,000 attendees should sleep
and eat in the city and drive to Steele.
