EUTAW – Col. J. Christopher Murphy, Director of the Alabama Department of Public Safety and a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Illegal Gambling, issued the following statement on Wednesday night concerning the latest developments at the Greenetrack casino.
Col. Murphy is at the casino to carry out the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling earlier today that ordered the Task Force on Illegal Gambling to “re-enter the facility and re-secure the site.”
“Late this afternoon, the Supreme Court of Alabama, our state’s highest court, issued an order that the State re-secure this facility and ordered that Greenetrack and all other parties allow the State to do that. In its order, the Supreme Court stated, ‘Compliance with an order of this Court is not optional.’
The president of Greenetrack has just told me that he is refusing to comply with the Supreme Court’s order. We have been ordered to re-secure the facility and we intend to do so as civilly as possible,” said Col. Murphy.
