Huntsville man sentenced for child exploitation

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A 37-year-old Huntsville man will spend life in prison after being convicted of seeking young girls for sex between 2002 and 2008.

U.S. District Judge C. Lynwood Smith Jr. sentenced John Lawson Simons Tuesday. He was charged with child exploitation in connection with two 2008 indictments.

Simons pleaded guilty to all charges in both indictments in January 2009.

Simons admitted to multiple incidents of either traveling to other states or transporting girls back to Alabama to sexually abuse them. His crimes involved girls from Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, Texas and Pennsylvania.

Authorities say Simons met the girls on the Internet, or by introducing himself to them in public places. Authorities say Simons also had child pornography on his computer.
