GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - Tourism is taking another hit on Alabama's coast following the postponement of a free Jimmy Buffett concert that had been scheduled for this week on the beach at Gulf Shores.
With business already off by about half due to the oil spill, promoters had planned the show for Thursday in hopes of boosting crowds around July 4. But organizers had to postpone the show until July 11 because of the threat of high surf from tropical storm Alex.
Phones at hotel front desks and condominium reservation offices began ringing almost immediately after organizers announced the delay. Many people are putting off their trips until later, but some are canceling altogether.
Many rental companies are letting people change their reservations without any fees.
