Ala. teen charged with killing unborn child

TROY, Ala. (AP) - Authorities on Pike County say a 17-year-old faces capital murder charges in the shooting of a woman who was three months pregnant.

Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage says Javontrez D. Boykin, of Troy faces charges of capital murder and assault in the shooting of 28-year-old Jennifer Griffin.

Griffin, also of Troy, was inside a home when officers say Boykin shot into the residence, striking the woman in her right thigh and stomach on Thursday.

Griffin was transported to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, where police spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough says she remains. He says the child died.

Officials say Boykin is being held at the Pike County jail without bond.
