The Dothan Fire Department is heading back to the classroom.
Training for the annual Safety, Health and Survival week encourages Fire personnel to address fitness-related issues.
Safety week is an event sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the International Association of Fire Fighters.
The group aims to give firefighters a better chance of survival in emergencies and in their daily lives.
The first part of training includes learning how to make healthy meals and incorporating fitness into their daily routine.
"A fire fighters average age after retirement is 10-15 years lifespan. A lot of that is contributed back to the on-again, off-again adrenaline rush you have from the job," says Captain Jim Watson, Dothan Fire Department.
The second part of Survival Week training includes techniques on how to de-stress and create a work-life balance.
