Ala. police officer fired after standoff

LITTLEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The Littleville City Council fired a police officer accused of conducting a standoff that lasted almost 11 hours.

Mayor Kenneth Copeland said the council voted unanimously to terminate 30-year-old officer David Saccocia who has been with the police department almost 2 years. Saccocia is charged with making a terrorist threat and is being held at the Colbert County jail on $100,000 bond.

Saccocia is accused of threatening to harm anyone who tried to enter his apartment from early Saturday until nearly noon. Officers say he eventually surrendered.

Authorities cited family issues as leading to the standoff.
