The Alabama Department of Public Health partnered with the U.S. Department of Health to celebrate Men's Health Month.
This is the first national celebration for the state.
The purpose is to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection.
Health officials say men are at a higher risk of diseases because many don't have health coverage.
"Heart disease, cancer, and accidents are many times preventable by changes in lifestyles," says Dr. Nelson Gwinn, Cardiologist- Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
The Southeast Alabama Medical Center will host Men's Health Day Saturday, August 7th at Northview High School.
