BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Jefferson County has hired a new chief
The new CFO, 42-year-old Jeff Hager of Hoover, won a contest
sponsored by Dunkin' Donuts last year to create a new doughnut. Now
he'll be dealing with the holes in Jefferson County's finances.
The University of Alabama graduate, who grew up in Montgomery, was hired Tuesday. He says it's too early to say what changes will
be made at the county's finance department, which has struggled to
find a way to repay $3.2 billion borrowed to repair and expand the
county sewer system.
The county's credit rating has been reduced to junk status, which has affected more than $1 billion in other debt.
