GERALDINE, Ala. (AP) - DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris says the death of a DeKalb County man found in his home near Geraldine is being treated as a homicide.
Harris says the man has been tentatively identified as 63-year-old Jerry Neal Burt.
The body was discovered about 4:30 p.m. Sunday by a friend who went to visit Burt at his home in the New Harmony community.
The friend told authorities he could see evidence of a fire.
Ray Cumby, a deputy state fire marshal, says there was very little damage to the house but accelerants were found.
Harris says the body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy.
