MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham lawyer Giles Perkins has been
endorsed by one of the state's major political groups, the Alabama
New South Coalition, for the Democratic runoff for attorney general
on July 13.
The coalition had originally endorsed Mobile lawyer Michel
Nicrosi, who finished third in the primary on June 1. The coalition
screened Perkins and his runoff opponent, Montgomery lawyer James
Anderson, on Saturday and then issued a new endorsement.
Anderson pulled 49.6 percent of the vote in the primary and
nearly won without a runoff. But Perkins says the New South
Coalition's endorsement will be "a game changer" for the runoff.
