Fort Rucker held its Memorial Day ceremony at1 Veterans Park this morning.
Wiregrass veterans and active duty men and women were in attendance.
The ceremony was emotional, filled with hugs and tears.
Army officials remembered fallen heroes, those who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
Fort Rucker officials say, signing up for the military is not only about duty, it's about being a part of something bigger than you.
"We are the most free country in the world and that's because of soldiers that are willing to lay down their lives for our founding fathers," says Colonel Mike Jones.
2,400 children have lost a parent in the military since 9/11.
