A new business has set up shop in the town of Webb. Dollar general is now open out on Highway 52 East. Residents are elated to spend money at home.
The estimated 1,300 residents living in Webb used to have to travel out of town to get a few simple items.
“We had to go seven to 10 miles in any direction to be able to pick up just simple things like paper towels or milk,” said Mayor Vicky Hunter.
But not anymore.
“We don't have to go to Dothan or Headland or Ashford or Cowarts and that saves us time and money,” said Glenda Langham of the Webb Industrial Board.
That's because the Dollar General has finally opened its doors on Highway 52 East.
“It's just awesome, it's just a really big blessing,” added Hunter.
After years of trying to get a big business to come to Webb, residents are excited the dream has finally become reality.
“They've been waiting, they've been hearing things, we've been talking about it and they'll come up to the council and say ‘we keep hearing you talk but nothing is happening’ and now it's finally happened,” said Morgan Hicks, a Webb town councilman.
“Dollar General's motto is save time save money and I think that's exactly what we're doing here,” said store manager Tracy McDonald.
Residents and leaders in Webb say it's all about convenience.
“To me the major thing that the Dollar General has done has brought a service to the citizens of the town of Webb,” said Hunter.
“Frozen foods, milk, bread, hardware, automotive, cleaning supplies, it basically has everything you want,” said McDonald.
Leaders in Webb say not only will the new Dollar General store be a big boost economically it will also hopefully attract more businesses to come and set up shop.
“Now we have a vision to grow for Webb,” said Hunter.
“Everyone has expressed they want a restaurant or some kind of eatery here,” added Langham.
But for now, the Dollar General is the talk of the town.
“It's the biggest deal that's happened in a long time I know because I’m really excited about it!” exclaimed Langham.
The Dollar General store in Webb employs 10 people and has been open for two weeks.
