In the tight economy, many people choose to vacation close to home.
Lakes in Alabama have benefitted from this new trend. They have become an affordable alternative to the beach or the Caribbean.
Lake Eufaula has recently seen a steady flow of traffic.
“We’ve been 95% full and business has been booming,” says Vickie Hollis, Marina Manager at LakePoint State Park.
In an effort to get more people to visit the lake, the park has undergone renovations to their swimming pool, cabins, and picnic areas.
“So far we’ve seen an increase in the number of campers,” says Hollis.
Park officials say they have seen a spike in business the last two months and hope the recent increase in tourism will continue.
