Dothan – Dothan businessman George Flowers on Tuesday released the following statement in response to reports that Harri Anne Smith will submit a petition to run for State Senate as in Independent candidate:
“I would like to congratulate Harri Anne Smith and her supporters for securing the names necessary to petition for ballot access as an Independent candidate for State Senate. Though the names will have to be verified, I know that many hours were spent gathering them, and those efforts should be recognized.
It is important to remember that names on a petition do not automatically translate into victory. If that were the case, our state would be governed by every third-party, fringe candidate who managed to get their name on the ballot. The petition process signals the beginning of a campaign, not the end.
Should her petition be approved, I look forward to a spirited debate of the issues in the Fall. In the meantime, I will focus my efforts on my primary campaign so I may be a participant in that debate when the time comes.”
