MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Dale Peterson was looking for a way to
jump-start his low-budget campaign for Alabama agriculture commissioner and found it with a YouTube video ad that has drawn
nearly 1 million viewers.
In the video Peterson rides in on a horse. He is wearing a white hat, carries a gun and attacks illegal immigrants. He promises to run the "thugs and criminals" out of state government.
Communications experts say it's hard to say if the attention the ad has received will translated into votes.
UAB communications studies professor Larry Powell says the video
is so outrageous it can't help buy draw viewers. But he said comments attached to the video show many of those who watched are from out-of-state and don't vote in Alabama.
