Help is on the way for seniors applying for food assistance programs.
The state of Alabama’s Department of Senior Services and the Department of Human Resources have teamed up to assist people 60 years and older.
In order to qualify, you must not have any earned income, nor receiving any food assistance benefits.
A short two-page application is required.
Once approved, you are then eligible for three years.
The program will bring relief to seniors living on a tight budget.
"It's rough because you can’t survive. If you don't have anything to buy groceries with, then it's hard for you,” said Alford Russaw, food bank recipient.
Currently there aren't any restrictions on the number of people that can qualify.
