Ala. Power expects no quick impact from EPA rules

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A spokesman for Alabama Power Co. says newly
announced federal regulations on greenhouse gases appear to have no
immediate effect on the operation of its electrical generating
plants.

Spokesman Michael Sznajderman said the impact would come if the
utility decides to add new generating capacity or make major upgrades to an existing plant. He told the Press-Register that are no definitive plans in the works to do either of those.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency unveiled new regulations Thursday. The EPA is taking a phased-in approach that may not require much more than additional paperwork for many large plants.
