BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Birmingham principal has been placed on unpaid administrative leave after authorities say she shaved half of a boy's eyebrow to remove what she thought was a gang symbol.
Birmingham city schools spokeswoman Michaelle Chapman says Principal Donna Mitchell will return to Inglenook K-8 School Wednesday.
School officials say the administrator acted after she had been seeing boys coming to school with lines shaved into their eyebrows.
The lines were perceived as a gang symbol, and Mitchell told the boys not to come to school with them again.
When a boy showed up with lines Wednesday, Chapman says Mitchell found a razor and shaved half his brow so the slit would not show.
Mitchell told officials what she had done.
