Decatur woman charged in friend's death

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Authorities have charged a Decatur woman with murder after her friend died from a gunshot wound.

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely tells the Decatur Daily in a Sunday story that Deborah Kay Arriaga was charged after 43-year-old Bryan Wayne Hutto died Saturday during surgery. Blakely said officials received a call Saturday afternoon that a man was lying in the street at a mobile home park in Tanner.

He said the victim stated he had been shot by a female named Deborah.

Blakely said Arriaga told police the two had been scuffling when the gun went off.

She was being held without bail Sunday and it was not immediately known if she has a lawyer.

Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said the two were friends but authorities have not said why they were arguing.
