Tornado reported in Sumter, no injuries or deaths

LIVINGSTON, Ala. (AP) - A tornado has been spotted in Sumter
County but no deaths or injuries have been reported.

Mark Linhares, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service
office in Birmingham, said the apparent tornado caused heavy damage
to several homes and trees in the area on Saturday.

Linhares said the twister was reported to have touched down near
Livingston.

Fire officials said numerous power lines were knocked down
around Ward and hail of various sizes was reported around the
state.

Jefferson County officials said they have received reports of
flooding in the Birmingham metro area. Also, several funnel clouds
were also spotted in Lamar County near Vernon.

Much of Alabama was covered by tornado watches or warnings on
Saturday as severe weather moved into the state.
