Appliance rebates begin Monday in Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - If you want to qualify for an appliance rebate in Alabama, you'd better act quickly because other states that began their programs before Alabama experienced a rush.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs has established a Web site (http://www.alrebates.com) where Alabamians can reserve a rebate starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday or they can call 1-877-856-6645 beginning at 7 a.m.

Alabama is limited to about $4 million in rebates from federal stimulus funds.

ADECA says the rebates are $25 for room air conditioners, $50 for freezers, $75 for dishwashers, $100 for clothes washers and $150 for standard-size refrigerators.

ADECA says consumers who reserve their rebates will have 15 days to purchase a qualified appliance from a retailer in Alabama and mail the rebate application form and purchase validation.
