On April 12, 2010, around 4:00 p.m. the Houston County Sheriff's Office recovered 24 ounces (1½ lbs.) of marijuana and approximately $1,300.00. This happened after a Houston County Deputy observed an expired tag on a black 2006 BMW as it pulled up to a convenience store at Linden St. and Powell St.
The Houston County Deputy observed two occupants exit the vehicle and entered the business. Minutes later, he observed the passenger exit the business and walk away from the store. Moments later, the driver of the vehicle came out of the business and also started to walk away from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified Christopher Jerome Russell a 23-year-old male of Kinsey, AL.
Russell was stopped and directed to return to his vehicle, due to the expired tag. It was later determined that Russell was operating the vehicle with a revoked license.
Russell was sited for the expired tag and for driving while revoked. He was told that the vehicle would have to be towed. The deputies sensed a strong order of marijuana upon opening the door to begin an inventory of the vehicle. They also noticed a bag containing the 1 ½ pounds of marijuana.
Russell was charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st. He is being held in the Houston County Jail on a $15,000.00 bond.
