Former Alabaster cop charged with domestic abuse

ALABASTER, Ala. (AP) - A former Alabaster police detective
accused of using a baseball to beat his wife is in a Shelby County

William Edgar "Eddie" Lovelady III is being held on $500,000 bond after authorities charged him with first-degree domestic violence.

In a court filing, the Shelby County District Attorney's office accuses the 58-year-old of beating his wife Susan with a bat until she suffered serious injuries and had to go to a hospital.

Lovelady left the Alabaster police department in 2003.
