The Southeast Alabama Medical Center unveiled a new addition Thursday.
The Family Birth Center has seven new labor, delivery, and recovery rooms in addition to the 20 already in place.
This new addition comes seven years to the day after the Women's Center opened.
As the population in the wiregrass continues to grow, so does the need for more medical services.
Since opening in 2003, the center has been the site of more than 10,000 births.
“We do what's called a ‘family care center environment’, and in that environment basically what you're trying to do is you're keeping mom and baby together with the family in one room, you don't have to move around and you try to keep the family together so that they have time to bond with each other,” said Tammy Smith, Director of the Women’s Center at the Medical Center.
Last year, more than 17,000 babies were delivered at the medical center.
