Ala. Senate approves education budget like House
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate has approved an education budget that closely resembles the one that was approved by the House last week.
The Senate voted unanimously Thursday for the $5.5 billion budget. The budget now goes back to the House for review of changes made by the Senate.
Senate budget committee Chairman Hank Sanders called the bill "a miracle budget." He said the legislative session began in January with big cutbacks expected. But the proposed budget will fund all state-paid teacher units and maintain the Alabama Reading Initiative and similar programs.
