Alabama jury convicts man of murdering wife

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) - A Baldwin County jury has found a Foley
man guilty of murder in the 2008 shooting of his wife in their home.

The jury on Wednesday also found 69-year-old David Harlan
Mumford guilty of assault for choking his son after the shooting.

Prosecutors said Mumford stormed into the home and shot 46-year-old Teresa Ann Welsh on June 15, 2008.

Authorities say she was shot once in the back and twice in the head.

Defense attorney Pascal Bruijn maintained that his client shot his wife in self-defense after she used pepper spray on him.

The son, who is now 16, testified that he knocked the gun out of
his father's hands and hit him on the head, and was able to break
away when his father began choking him.
