For one local woman today, getting groceries was much more than a simple errand. Linda Bond's trip to the grocery store could have put her in the hospital.
Dothan police and fire rescue responded to a call just after 9 o'clock Wednesday morning involving a pick-up truck and a car that collided at Hodgesville Road and The Circle.
"A pick-up truck which was southbound on Hodgesville Road attempting to turn left was struck by a vehicle that was headed eastbound on The Circle. The pick-up truck spun around three times, apparently he [the driver] lost consciousness on impact, had his foot on the accelerator, spun three times and ended up overturned here on Hodgesville Road and The Circle," said Chief Benton
The driver of the truck, 54 year old Robert T. Smith Jr. of Dothan died at the scene.
Another 66 year old victim was treated and released. 50 year old Ichicypine Shorter of Shorterville remains hospitalized and is in fair condition. 78 year old Tom Grace of Danya, Florida remains in critical condition.
Luckily, for Bond, she breathed a sigh of relief....thankful for another day.
"I'm still a little shaky, but i'm okay, I just thank god that I got out of the way," said Bond.
