Senate Passes Bill To Ban Smoking in Alabama Restaurants

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate has approved a bill
to ban smoking in restaurants throughout the state.

The Senate voted 19-3 Tuesday evening to pass the bill by
Democratic Sen. Vivian Davis Figures of Mobile.

Figures has tried for several years to pass bills restricting
smoking in public places, but she has not had success. She said she
is trying again this year with a simpler bill that only applies to

Her bill now goes to the House for consideration.
