Man charged with murder after fatal collision

FULTONDALE, Ala. (AP) - Police in Fultondale have charged a man
with murder after an accident that killed a woman whose car was
struck by a driver officers say ran a red light after speeding away
from a shopping center.

Fultondale police have also charged 21-year-old Christopher Dale
Mitchell of Adamsville with first-degree assault for injuries suffered by David Cupps, who remains in critical condition at UAB Hospital.

Authorities say his wife, 50-year-old Pamela Cupps, died Saturday.

Police say they received a call about a theft at a store and an officer saw a vehicle do a U-turn and speed away.

Lt. Phillip Mangina of Fultondale police says officers briefly
pursued the car, which got on Interstate 65 and exited before the
collision.
