BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A former Alabama pediatrician has pleaded guilty to a federal child pornography charge.
Michael Roy Sharpe of Albertville entered the plea during a hearing Thursday in Birmingham. No sentencing date was set.
The 64-year-old Sharpe was fired from three hospitals in Tennessee - twice after being accused of sexual misconduct - before he moved to Alabama. He admitted having sex with a 15-year-old girl last year and gave up his medical license.
Authorities say Sharpe had a photo of the girl on his cell phone, resulting in the child pornography charge. Sharpe also was charged with rape and sodomy in state court.
Sharpe's lawyer filed papers claiming he had two traumatic brain
injuries and a history of psychological treatment.
