BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A few north Alabama school systems are
opening late because of a mix of rain and snow moving across the
state.

Students in county school systems including Blount, Cherokee,
Clay, Jackson, Lawrence and Limestone got to sleep a little late
Tuesday because of the potential for travel problems.

Classes also started late in the cities of Fort Payne,
Scottsboro and Fort Payne.

Some areas got a dusting of snow as gulf moisture mixed with
colder air to the north, but forecasters the snow would switch to
rain later.

A gradual warming trend is expected for the rest of the week,
with chilly nights but temperatures climbing into the 60s in
northern Alabama by the weekend.
