Man Arrested For Stealing Copper Coils From Churches and Schools

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Birmingham man has been arrested and
charged with vandalism and theft after police said he stole copper
coils from churches and school buildings in Fairfield.

Investigators in Fairfield arrested 35-year-old Antonio DeCarlos
Mallory. He faces charges including theft of property and
possession of burglary tools.

Investigators believe Mallory vandalized air conditioners in at
least six locations and lifted the copper coils from inside.

Authorities linked him to hits at Shady Grove Baptist Church,
Greater Lily Baptist Church and Fairfield City Hall - where the
theft cost the city about $20,000 in repairs.

Police Chief Pat Mardis said authorities are investigating
Mallory's possible connection to other copper thefts in Fairfield,
Birmingham and Bessemer.

Authorities believe Mallory got about $14 for each air
conditioner's copper.
