Birmingham Teen Gets Life in Murder Attempt

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A west Birmingham teen pleaded guilty to attempted murder, and his brother was arraigned on capital murder and conspiracy charges Monday in a crime spree in that left people dead and one paralyzed.

Circuit Judge Tommy Nail 18-year-old Demarius Seay to life with
the possibility of parole.

Seay admitted participating in an attempt to kill Kandi Hawkins,
who was paralyzed after she was shot twice in the head in June.

Authorities say another defendant, Martez Seay, directed the
murder attempt from the Jefferson County Jail, where he was held with no bond on a capital murder charge in the May 3 shooting death of Lonnie Vaughn.
