Senior U.S. senator from Alabama Richard Shelby was in Dothan Tuesday afternoon.
The republican spoke to members of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center.
Shelby addressed many issues affecting our nation today; stating his objection to a government-run healthcare system and his disapproval of big bank bailouts.
Shelby says it's events like this that help him connect with the people.
“It gives me a chance to come home, to report to the people, and also to listen to the people of what are their concerns, what are their hopes, and what are their criticisms so to speak. I think it's very healthy as far as political life is concerned,” said Shelby.
He is currently in his fourth consecutive term as U.S. senator and says he will seek a fifth term.
