Former Police Officer Convicted of Raping His Late Stepdaughter

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A former Chickasaw police officer has been
convicted of raping his late stepdaughter.

Fifty-one-year-old Bob Lee Ingle was found guilty on charges of
sex abuse, rape and sodomy.

Defense had argued that the death of the 10-year-old girl in
January 2008 meant Ingle would be denied his right to cross-examine
his accuser.

But Mobile County Circuit Judge Michael Youngpeter ruled that
any statements she made to police can't be heard by the jury,
although other statements to friends, family and medical personnel
are admissible.

The trial has been delayed at least six times over the last two
years.
