TVA's dander up over cats on its NW Alabama land

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) - Animal lovers have been caring for stray cats dumped on the Tennessee Valley Authority's reservation in the Shoals for years.

But TVA now asks that the animals be removed for good.

The cats are known as "Rock Pile Cats," and Joann Johnson is among those who have been feeding and finding adoptive homes for them, working through local animal clinics.

She says the problem is the people who keep abandoning the cats at the site.

TVA spokesman Scott Brooks says the agency will start removing the cats if others don't take on that responsibility.

He said the problem hopefully will be solved by spring.
