BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A beer advocacy group that helped bring
higher-alcohol craft brews to Alabama is now looking to loosen
restrictions on breweries and brewpubs.
The Free the Hops group is pressing lawmakers to support the
Brewery Modernization Act that would lift some restrictions that
make it difficult for businesses to open and operate breweries.
Group lobbyist Dan Roberts said the tight restrictions have
forced some brewpubs in Birmingham, Mobile and Auburn to close. He
said the state is "severely limiting the growth of an industry
that is finding success and creating jobs in other states."
