BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) - A Baldwin County sheriff deputy has
died after authorities say he was struck by a train while hunting

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the
death of 33-year-old Sheriff Deputy Mike Malone.

Department officials say he was hunting on or near a train track when he was struck and killed instantly by a train.

Malone worked with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office since
October 2002, after having worked for the city of Mobile Police

Malone worked in the criminal patrol division of the sheriff's
office until 2008, when he was transferred to his current position
as an investigator in the criminal investigations division,
sheriff's officials.

Malone also was a member on the sheriff's office Emergency Response Team.

    No way he killed himself...He was my roommate in the Marines. I knew Mike.

    He killed himself. There is no way he was hunting and didn't hear the train coming.
