Church Being Evicted after Mounting Debt

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Jefferson County church and 200-child
day care is being evicted from a former movie theater in northeast
Birmingham after years of running behind on debts.

County records show Walking on Water Christian Church a foreclosure was completed on the building in September 2007 after the church defaulted on payments but the church reached a lease agreement but fell behind on payments.

Claude Willis is administrator of Walking on Water Christian Church.

He says the eviction is being delayed while the church negotiates.

He says worship services remain scheduled for Sunday.
