BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The Friends of Semmes says it is in the
final stages of requesting a referendum to incorporate Semmes.
Helen Joyce is one of the leaders of the incorporation effort.
The proposed city of Semmes would include areas around Wulff,
Snow, McCrary, Firetower and Howell's Ferry roads.
Census data shows about 13,000 people live in the area.
Joyce says the group is finalizing the petitions to submit to the probate judge.
The Mobile County Commission approved a resolution supporting the incorporation of Semmes during its Monday meeting.
