U.S.S Independence Sets Sail

It was a ceremony marked with naval tradition and a lot of umbrellas, but with a few magic words.

The U.S.S Independence, built in Mobile at Austal USA, sets sail for waters away from Mobile.

Hundreds turned out for the ceremony, despite torrential rain.

The sailors manning this vessel are American, but the team that put it together came from all over the world.

The independence heads to Virginia for testing before its permanent port of call in California.
