Early Morning Accident Claims Brundidge Man

A Pike County man is dead after an early morning accident.

Authorities say the accident happened around 5 o'clock Saturday morning.

24 year old José Ortiz was driving south in a 2002 Ford Mustang, 4 miles south of Brundidge on Highway 125.

The investigation shows Ortiz was speeding.

It is believed he ran off the road and hit a tree.

Ortiz was the only occupant in the car.

Authorities say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

He was taken to Troy Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by Pike County coroner, Jerry Williams.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the case.
